There are so many ways for YOU to help the homeless pets of South Mississippi! We know you can find one or even more ways that you would like to help HSSM further our mission of serving South Mississippi’s pets!
Donate
HSSM is a 100% independent, nonprofit organization. We receive no government funding nor “trickle down” funding from any national organization (including the ASPCA and HSUS) for general operating purposes.
We depend on our community to raise the $2.6 million it takes to operate each year. Find out more about donating to HSSM and the many options available to our valued donors.
Volunteer
Always wanted to work with animals but you ended up as a _______ (insert profession here)?!
No worries, HSSM still needs your talents! We’ve got fun and exciting opportunities ranging from hands-on dog training and cat socializing to using your gift of gab for the betterment of the animals to clerical duties like filing and data entry! No matter your skills or interests, we have a volunteer opportunity for you!
Foster Care
Do you have commitment issues? Maybe you’re thinking about getting a pet but you want to give it a test drive? Or are you just looking for a way to help a pet who is too sick or too young to be adopted?
Look no further! HSSM’s Foster program helps thousands of pets each year get out of the shelter and spend time in a home. Most foster pets are sick or simply too young to be adopted and they need a place to stay for a limited amount of time.
Foster parents are supplied with all necessary medications, any supplies (crate, towels, etc.), a free bag of food, and an emergency phone number (just in case!).
Thrift Store
Cleaning out your closets? Just got done with a garage sale and wondering what to do with the rest?
Donate your gently used clothing, household items, toys and more to HSSM’s Thrift Store. 100% of the money raised from Thrift Store sales go to support HSSM’s life saving programs!
Kids Can Help Too!
Although the minimum volunteer age at HSSM is 18, there are all kinds of ways kids can help South Mississippi’s pets!
Needs List
Caring for over 300 pets on any given day is more than puppy kisses and kitten snuggles!
You can see and download HSSM’s current Needs List, which details many of the items and products necessary to our daily life-saving operations!
Reporting Abuse and Neglect
HSSM encourages anyone who has seen abuse or neglect of an animal to contact the appropriate authorities.
Recycling Programs
Save puppies, kitties and the Planet all at the same time!
Recycle your shredded office paper, newspapers, aluminum cans, and more by donating it to HSSM!
