HSSM to Offer Two-for-One Cat Fix Special to Assist in Eliminating Euthanasia

HSSM will offer a Two-for-One Cat Fix special in order to reduce the number of unwanted litters during coming months as part of the organization’s “Countdown to Zero” initiative, which aims to eliminate the euthanasia of healthy adoptable pets in South Mississippi by 2015.

From now until April 30, HSSM’s Louise Fenner Claiborne Spay/Neuter Clinic will spay or neuter two (2) cats for the price of one (1). Current spay/neuter fees are as follows (all cat prices include two surgeries from now until April 30):

Regular Fees

Female dogs:  $70

Male dogs, all cats:  $60

Residents of Unincorporated Harrison County

All dogs & cats: $45

Feral cats in Harrison County: FREE*

Low income: $10**

This special is being offered as a means to reduce the number of unwanted kittens that flood shelters each year, causing a spike in euthanasia during the spring months. Reducing these intake numbers will be integral in HSSM’s “Countdown to Zero” initiative, which aims to eliminate the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets in South Mississippi by 2015.

“Making spay/neuter attainable and affordable for everyone is a key ingredient in our recipe for success,” said Tara High, HSSM executive Director, “So in releasing this two-for-one special, we hope to encourage cat caregivers throughout our community to get their cats fixed before we see a huge influx of kittens this Spring and Summer.”

To take advantage of this Two-for-One Cat Fix Special, cat caregivers should call 228-863-3354 ext. 129 or 130 before April 30 to schedule their cats’ spay/neuter surgery.

HSSM, the leading animal welfare organization on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, was founded in 1952 and spay/neuter has always been central to its mission. In 2011, HSSM spayed or neutered nearly 10,000 pets. The Louise Fenner Claiborne Spay Neuter Clinic is HSSM’s low-cost, high-quality spay/neuter clinic which is part of HSSM’s 40,000 square foot state-of the art facility on Hwy 49.

*Feral cats are stray/wild cats that live in your area and don’t really belong to anyone. All feral cats MUST be eartipped at time of surgery.

**Must bring proof that you reside in Harrison County and you are receiving government assistance through EBT, WIC, Medicaid, SS Disability, Public Housing, etc.
